TMJ is basically a type of temporomandibular disorder that can cause pain in your jaw joint and in the muscles that regulate jaw mobility. You can experience severe pain because of genetics, arthritis, or jaw injury.

Symptoms

  • Pain in your jaw.
  • Discomfort in one or both of the temporomandibular joints.
  • Pain while chewing.
  • Locking of the joint.
  • Difficult in opening or closing your mouth.

Preventions:

  • Eat a soft diet and provide relaxation to TMJ.
  • Avoid tough chewing food.
  • Avoid chewing gums.
  • Avoid biting your nails and lower lip.
  • Limit large jaw movements, such as yawning and singing.
People who have jaw pain also tend to clench or grind their teeth in TMJ disorder, don’t mistake these people with the ones who are habitual of clenching or grinding their teeth The discomfort associated with TMJ disorders is temporary and can be relieved with nonsurgical treatments but severe cases need special attention and that is the reason one should consult a doctor regarding the same.
